The Monstera adansonii has large heart-shaped leaves, and is a popular and highly prized plant for its fenestrations, the oval-shaped holes, which give it its beloved nickname of “Swiss Cheese Vine”.
The Monstera adansonii is beloved for the holes in its leaves, but it also serves a purpose. Botanists believe that the holes allow light to pass through to the lower parts of the plant, and to other plants that live below. The holes also allow for air and high winds to circulate through the plant.
