The Bird of Paradise is a gorgeous tropical plant, and makes for a lovely addition to any tropical garden. It is also known by its scientific name, Strelitzia. It is commonly referred to as a bird of paradise due to the flower and its resemblance to a bird of the same name.

This pin was inspired by my first trip to Maui. Along the Road to Hana you can see a number of Monsteras climbing trees, forests filled with towering Bamboo, and the bright and beautiful Bird of Paradise surrounded by its lush, dark green leaves. The card back is a photo that I took while I was there. You can also see a few White Birds of Paradise flowers at the base of the card back.

Whether you are a fan of THC, Hemp or CBD, Cannabis has a fascinating history around the world. There is strong archaeological evidence reinforcing the belief that cannabis was domesticated 12,000 years ago, and there is written record by the Greek historian Herodotus about the cannabis steam baths that were common at the time. In 3rd century AD, Daoists in China would similarly burn cannabis in incense burners.

Hemp has also been grown for rope, cloth, paper, and many people may remember those hemp necklaces that were all the rage in the 90s.

CBD has been proven to be helpful with anxiety, insomnia, high blood pressure and chronic pain like Fibromyalgia - but with many things in life, results may differ from individual to individual.

This beautifully detailed pin is plated in 10K Gold and would pop on any lapel, top or bag.

Every single one of us has been there.

Either we were too eager and loved the plant (i.e. overwatered it) to death, received some bad tips (like “watering” a plant with ice cubes, or water frequently and shallowly), or simply had the wrong environment for a plant (hello Maranta’s - I still love you).

We have all killed a plant.

And each and every time we grow, each time we learn something new, and each time we get better.

Here’s to learning from our mistakes, here’s to the next plant, and continuing to grow alongside it.

The Monstera adansonii has large heart-shaped leaves, and is a popular and highly prized plant for its fenestrations, the oval-shaped holes, which give it its beloved nickname of “Swiss Cheese Vine”.

The Monstera adansonii is beloved for the holes in its leaves, but it also serves a purpose. Botanists believe that the holes allow light to pass through to the lower parts of the plant, and to other plants that live below. The holes also allow for air and high winds to circulate through the plant.

The Pilea peperomioides is also known as the Chinese Money Plant, Pancake, or UFO Plant. My favorite nickname though, is The Friendship Plant.

Native to China, it is believed that a Norwegian missionary took cuttings with him when he returned home in the 1940s. And the way that this plant spread in popularity was through the sharing of its pups (babies). This is also why this plant is also known as the Friendship Plant.

Inspired by that history, I have two Pilea sizes available, that way you can purchase another Pilea Pin for a friend or loved one. So that you too can continue to help share this beautiful plant.

While hiking a trail outside of Seattle, I was enthralled by the darling little pine cones that I would find lining the forest floor. This sweet little pine cone pin is a wonderful reminder to get outside, to breathe the fresh air, and is the perfect accent for any nature lover.
