A a sweet Coneflower in brilliant rice and soy-based Risograph inks.

Risograph is a fascinating medium that uses actual ink, unlike laser jets, and the colors are transparent, which is why I'm able to overlay inks achieving new shades and hues.

Risograph printing is extraordinarily environmentally friendly, where the screens that are used are made from rice and banana leaves and the inks are derived from rice and soy.

This particular illustration was drawn by hand, redrawn as a digital file, and printed here in Seattle.

Please note: Due to the nature of Risograph, where each layer of color is printed one at a time, your print may differ slightly from the photo. This is called misregistration and is one of the most charming aspects of Risograph Printing

When I was growing up, I genuinely hated hats. They fit terribly, would hurt my head and would feel like they were squeezing my skull. So when other girls would pop a cute hat on for "no wash days" or because they woke up late, or to keep the sun out of their eyes while on a walk or at a farmer's market, I genuinely thought it was a form of fashion pain. That they were all lying about choosing to wear hats, like when people tell you that wearing high heels is as comfortable as sneakers.

And then one day, while in the Subtle Asian Traits Facebook Group, I learned that snowboarding helmets came in three sizes. Youth, Adult & Asian.

Because our heads are shaped differently. So I did a deep dive. I bought 13 hats to find one that was comfortable, that looked good, that didn't squeeze my head, and I found it.

Bright, breezy, and full of Midwest sunshine, the Head in the Clouds • Chicago Hat captures the spirit of the Windy City on a perfect summer day.

Inspired by the endless blue skies and the shimmer of Lake Michigan, this hat features “CHICAGO” embroidered in soft butter yellow bubble lettering across a sky-blue cotton cap. It’s a cheery, everyday essential for those who love the city, and the friendly people in it.

Whether you’re wandering around the Garfield Park Conservatory, ice skating in Millenium Park, or daydreaming under a cloud-spotted sky, this hat is your wearable reminder of where your head, and your heart, belongs.

Also available: San Francisco & Seattle Hats

            PRODUCT DETAILS •

            • "CHICAGO" text is in butter yellow with a very cool 3D effect that can be seen from very far away. The letters were hand drawn by Samantha to resemble Mylar balloons and clouds.
            • Embroidered in Seattle, WA
            • The cap is unstructured and will lie closely to the head
            • It includes 6 Panels which makes it better fitted
            • It has a slightly pre-curved visor
            • It features a Tuck Strap with Slide Closure for a custom fit

            SIZE •

            • The short answer is this hat is One-Size-Fits Most and includes an adjustable strap that is tucked into the interior of the hat for a fitted feel
            • Min Circumference: ~ 50cm/19.5"
              Max Circumference: ~ 64cm/25"
            • The long answer is that a few years ago I learned that Asian heads are shaped differently. So my entire life I have been under the impression that I had a large head - in reality, it is simply differently shaped which is why free novelty hats, and hats I would try on at the hat store in the mall (you know which one) never fit me.

I learned about this in my SAT (Subtle Asian Traits) Facebook Group where they talked about snowboarding helmets. (I know, but I warned you that this was the long answer before you even started reading this!) So when I started researching hats I bought 13 different hats to see which one fit the best. Because the fact of the matter is that I wanted to sell a hat, it was going to fit my head. And if it fit my head, it would also fit almost everyone else's heads too.

            MATERIAL •

            • 100% garment dyed and washed cotton twill

            CARE •

            • You can either hand wash, spot treat or machine wash your hat! Maytag wrote a very complete article on how to take care of your hat, including vintage hats, that you can find here.

All sales are final on apparel.

Inspired by Sea Foam contrasted with the deep teal blue of the Pacific Ocean at Ocean Beach, the Head in the Clouds San Francisco Hat brings the tide-blue hues and bright whites to your everyday.

Across the front, “SAN FRANCISCO”, which was hand lettered by Samantha of HEMLEVA, is embroidered in soft, bold, 3D puff letters for that extra pop of texture and personality. Each hat is carefully embroidered in Seattle by a talented woman-owned embroidery shop.

Whether you’re wandering around Golden Gate Park, waking up to fog-filled mornings, drinking a latte as you walk the quiet streets of San Francisco, or flying a kite at Ocean Beach, this hat is your wearable love letter to the city by the Bay.

Every single one of us has been there.

Either we were too eager and loved the plant (i.e. overwatered it) to death, received some bad tips (like “watering” a plant with ice cubes, or water frequently and shallowly), or simply had the wrong environment for a plant (hello Maranta’s - I still love you).

We have all killed a plant.

And each and every time we grow, each time we learn something new, and each time we get better.

Here’s to learning from our mistakes, here’s to the next plant, and continuing to grow alongside it.

This pin features an illustration that Samantha made for the "Growing Joy" Book written by Maria Failla!

The Monstera Deliciosa Plant is a prized addition to any plant collection. It has a luscious Dark Jungle Green coloring and features very distinct leaf fenestrations, hence its popular nickname "swiss cheese plant".

The latin name “deliciosa” came about because of the edible fruit that is produced, that is said to taste like fruit salad. And Monstera refers to the monstrous size of the plant, which can grow upwards of 30ft tall!

This beautiful pin comes with a very strong Neodymium Magnet, making it a sweet pin that you can use as a needle minder, or to be worn as a pin without the concern of making holes in your clothing.

This beautiful pin, with a delicate fish on a platter, features my own handwriting that spells out "seattle" in place of the fish bones. With both a nod to the city that I call home along with our collective love of tinned fish and seafood.

I designed this as a thank you to the city that I love. When you grow up, you learn how powerful and wonderful it is to be able to choose. To choose the people we surround ourselves with, the places we occupy, the things we do, the place we call home and the beings we call our families.

I might have grown up in the Midwest, but Seattle is my home. 💗

                      • When back to school shopping, one of my very favorite things was to see what new innovative products were now available in the Sticky Note World. (I totally admit that I have always been a stationery nerd.)

One of my most memorable sticky-note-related childhood highlights was when I bought one of those accordion-style sticky note stacks, the ones that you can play with like a slinky.

And while this Sticky Pad doesn't double duty as a slinky, it is so very sweet. The sheets are a lovely lavender color, has a very light grid pattern, and features a sweet Pansy.

Ideas for how to use this sticky pad:

                        • Leave notes for yourself:
                          Reminders
                          Affirmations
                          Goals
                          Dreams
                          To-do lists
                        • Leave notes for people you love
                        • Leave notes for strangers (aka future friends)
                        • Draw a little doodle

The paper is uncoated so you can easily use any pen or pencil to write on it, and the paper is 60 lbs. which is a nice weight for sticky notes.

                        Each Sticky Note Pad has:

                        • 50 Sheets
                        • 60 lb. Paper
                        • 3 x 3" in size

The Pilea peperomioides is also known as the Chinese Money Plant, Pancake, or UFO Plant. My favorite nickname though, is The Friendship Plant.

Native to China, it is believed that a Norwegian missionary took cuttings with him when he returned home in the 1940s. And the way that this plant spread in popularity was through the sharing of its pups (babies). This is also why this plant is also known as the Friendship Plant.

Inspired by that history, I have a Friendship Set, which will include one Large Pilea Pin and one Small Pilea Pin, both on one card. If you would like each on their own card back, please let me know in the comments section when you checkout.
